Laying Life’s Bricks

Laying Life’s Bricks

The more seasoned and experienced I get (note – I didn’t say “older”), the more I understand the importance of what we leave behind. Although I know I still have many decades of life, love, and laughs in front of me, I recognize that someday there will be a final curtain. And I don’t say this with any doom and gloom, I simply want to point out that someday, we will run out of tomorrows, and that should place a greater emphasis on the importance of today.

A Fallen Brother

A Fallen Brother

The sport of triathlon always gets my writing juices flowing. For different reasons, so does the topic of death and losing a loved one. So I can’t quite understand why when those two subjects combine as one that I am practically at a loss for words. Perhaps it’s not that I am at a loss for words, maybe I just can’t seem to organize any of the words that are colliding in my head into an intelligent thought.

An Angel Rises

An Angel Rises

Given the fact that I am a leukemia survivor, and am quite active with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I find myself making connections all the time. Connections in the medical field, connections to patients, and their family members, and connections to wonderful people who just want to do their part to make a difference…. to count, and to matter.

Our friends at the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon have given me the green light to raffle off an outstanding prize package to their 2011 race while benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. (Please note this contest is for the 2011 event)

State of My Union

State of My Union

Greetings world. I have been quite busy as of late which is the reason for my limited writing. All is going very well though. Our TEAM IN TRAINING athletes are coming off an outstanding weekend in St. Petersburg Florida at the St. Anthony’s triathlon. We had two slight casualties during the course of the race and as unfortunate as that is, the dignity and courage that both athletes displayed through their disappointment makes them both champions in my book.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year

Many of you know that I have been nominated to run for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year award. The Man & Woman of the Year is a national campaign to raise funds to cure leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. In case you are not aware of my story, I will give you a few of the highlights. I have been an athlete my entire life, and have been racing endurance sports for close to 25 years so I am also living proof that cancer doesn’t play by any rules.

Soul Food for Lunch

Soul Food for Lunch

I am fortunate in that I am able to run during my mid day lunch break at work. This is something that I have been doing for probably 20 years if not more. It’s something that helps stabilize me and keeps me somewhat sane. It also really helps work productivity because it is a great way to not only blow off some stress, but also problem solve in a free form and endorphin induced state. When my run schedule gets interrupted, I become a little agitated and a lot anxious and uptight. It’s pretty easy to tell when I have been able to run – and when I haven’t.

Motivation and Perspective

Motivation and Perspective

I gave a talk today at the Endurance Sports Expo on “Motivation and Perspective”. I attempted to piece together the highlights of the talk into some kind of legible or at least readable format. Hopefully it translates ok. So, here ya go … the key points anyway.
